In June 2015 I was invited along with one designer from each Nordic country to do a one week workshop, ending with an exhibition as part of One Design Week in Plovdiv 2016. Our theme was a response to our experience of Plovdiv in concrete and other building materials.

Plovdiv is one of the world’s oldest cities, a rich mix of different cultural heritage. While walking around Plovdiv I could really sense the history represented in a patchwork of building materials. My project is an exploration of the aesthetic possibilities of a patchwork of classic building materials. I poured different colours of concrete and plaster in the cavities of bricks, and then sanded them down to reveal their structure again, highlighting patterns that normally have a purely functional purpose and are hidden inside building structures. The pieces also refer to Bulgarian tapestry in their geometrical colourful patterns.
